Diamine Inkvent Calendar Day 5

Today’s ink reminds me of a Christmas book I loved as a child. It was a scratch-n-sniff book, and one of the pages depicted chocolate cookies fresh from the oven.

Triple Chocolaté ink makes my mouth water. It’s a rich milk chocolate brown standard ink with a tiny bit of shading.

The ink flows well and dries quickly. Although it looks as though there’s some sheen in my writing samples, that’s either a trick of the light or some leftover ink that bled out from my broad nib.

Triple Chocolaté is a good ink for drawing, painting, or writing. You might want to have some milk chocolate on hand just in case this ink gives you a craving.

Diamine Inkvent Calendar Day 4

It’s December 4th and today’s ink is one of my favorites. It’s called Polar Glow and the name suits it perfectly.

Polar Glow is a dark blue ink with purple/magenta sheen.

The blue is highly saturated and the sheen simply glows in sunshine.

On Rhodia paper, the ink’s sheen is hardly noticeable. In fact, the color looks much more like a straightforward blue. You can see a bit of the sheen in the swab and in the medium and broad writing examples.

Polar Glow is a superb color, especially if you love inks with sheen. The color almost exactly matches the blue of the Inkvent Calendar (at least on Rhodia paper), but when you write with flex or broad nibs or do swabs, the purple/magenta sheen glows like the reflection of the Milky Way on icy northern waters.

Diamine Inkvent Calendar Day 3

(Susan M. Pigott is a fountain pen collector, pen and paperholic, photographer, and professor. You can find more from Susan on her blog Scribalishess.)

On the third day of Advent Diamine gave to me a tiny bottle of shimmering ink.

Snow Storm is a light gray shimmer ink with silver particles. It definitely reminds me of gray December skies, though snow storms in Abilene, Texas, are rare.

Snow Storm offers some lovely shading (in a flex nib) in addition to the shimmer, which is more noticeable in the ink droplets on the Col-o-ring Card.

The ink looks rather washed out on Rhodia paper, so this is a color you’ll want to use in flex or broad nibs for writing. For art, it will work well as a wash.

I wish Diamine had made Snow Storm a much darker gray so that the shimmer would be more obvious. A darker gray would’ve made this ink more useful for writing as well.
